PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording apparatus including a waste ink tank wherein a waste ink absorber is stored, and capable of accurately detecting the remaining capacity of the waste ink tank. SOLUTION: The inkjet recording apparatus includes: a waste ink amount detecting chamber 43 into which the waste ink discharged from a recording head 30 flows in; and an opening/closing valve 44 to switch so that the waste ink amount detecting chamber 43 and the waste ink tank 46 may communicate with or shut off from each other. The valve 44 is closed to collect the waste ink into the waste ink amount detecting chamber 43, thereafter, the valve 44 is opened to make the fixed amount of waste ink flow from the waste ink amount detecting chamber 43 into the waste ink tank 46, and the remaining capacity of the waste ink tank 46 is determined based on the duration at that time.
