<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short arc discharge lamp which suppresses breakage of an electrode, is high in reliability, and has a long lamp service life. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the short arc discharge lamp in which a pair of electrodes 2, having the electrode body part 21 and an axial part 22 small in the outer diameter, as compared with that of the electrode body part 21 is arranged in a light-emitting tube 1; on the base end side of the electrode body part 21, a tapered part 24 in which the outer diameter is reduced toward the axial part 22 is formed; and in the taper part 24, a plurality of holes 26 are arranged and installed in the axis L line direction of the electrode 2.
