<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and simple printer, without requiring a tension gauge and information on gravity applied to paper, while eliminating the vertical movement of a bottom part of a web loop formed in a web storage part. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This printer has an imaging part for forming an image on a carried web W, a storage part arranged on the upstream side in the web carrying direction to the imaging part and applying looseness to the web W, in-feed rollers 3a and 3b for carrying the web W in the storage part, and a distance measuring sensor 8 for detecting a distance up to the bottom part of a loose part of the web W from a ceiling part of the storage part. The length in the carrying direction of the web W existing in the storage part is calculated based on a parabolic expression from distance information from the distance measuring sensor 8, and a rotating speed of the in-feed rollers 3a and 3b is determined by a variation in the length of the web W every very little time.
