Class 51 (2) An annealing furnace comprising a number of furnace bases on each of which the charge to be treated is arranged within an inner shell adapted to be covered during the heating period by a heating cover and during the cooling period by a cooling cover is characterized in that a plurality of shells are arranged in a closed path and that a definite number of successive shells is associated with a heating cover and a cooling cover which are arranged on a transporting device on which they are movable both horizontally and vertically in relation to the shells. The transporting device shown comprises a column 3 supporting cross beams 4, 24, to the ends of which heating covers 1 and cooling covers 25 are respectively attached. Each base is provided with a support 5 for both the inner shell 2 and the covers and is also provided with a ring 10 on the top of a heat insulating chest 9 the free centre space of the ring housing a motor driven ventilator fan 12 which serves to agitate the hot gases in the interior of the shell 2. The lower ends of the shells carry encircling sand trays 7 into which rims 8 of covers 1 are seated. The column 3 carries a telescopic tube 15 through which combustible gas is fed to the covers via the beam 4 and pipes 18 and it moves, by hydraulic or mechanical means, in a cylinder 19 in which a number of vertical slots 20 is arranged corresponding to the eight bases to be served. These slots are engaged by pins 22 carried by the covers 1. When the rising covers 1 approach their upper end positions the pins 22 are diverted into inclined tracks 23, 23a thereby causing the turning of the cross beams through 45 degrees. In addition to the guide slots 20, 23, 23a, the cylinder 19 is provided with electric connection means 27 which engage contact fingers 28 on the beam 24 when the latter is in its lowered position. By these means current is supplied to ventilating fans 26 in the cooling covers and, in the case of gas heated covers, also to fans for supplying combustion air. In electrically heated covers the means are utilized for supplying the necessary current. Fig. 3 shows the bases at a enclosed by heating covers whilst the bases at b are uncovered, the charges thereon cooling naturally, the bases at c covered by cooling covers, and the bases at d supplied with fresh charges ready for treatment. When the charges at a have been annealed the cross-beams 4, 24, are raised, turned and lowered such that the charges at d are now under the covers 1 whilst the charges at bare being forced cooled. When the heating process at d is completed the beams and covers are again raised, turned and lowered such that the fresh charges at c are under the covers 1 and the charges at a under the covers 25. The raising, turning and lowering process of beams and covers is repeated continuously. |
