<p>A marine seismic array comprising one or more lead-in cables 410 having a first end engaged with a seismic vessel 412 and a second end engaged with a seismic streamer 406. In another aspect the second end is engaged with a seismic source. At least one diverter 402 is directly attached to each of the one or more cables 410 and the diverters 402 may be submerged, eliminating the need for taglines and additional flotation. Because each cable has its own diverter, the need for dedicated towing ropes and taglines between cables is eliminated, thereby reducing the overall drag and fuel consumption. The diverter 402 may comprise of either a single span-wise hydro foil (702, Fig.7) or two foil sections (Fig. 10) and is steerable. The diverters 402 may be capable of executing a 180 degree roll around the axis of the cables 410 such that the diverters 402 generate lift in the opposite lateral direction to the initial orientation of the diverters.</p> |
