[Also in Group VIII] A surgical swab comprises an inner absorbent layer 12 with an outer layer of high wet strength tissue paper on one side and an outer layer of either high wet strength paper or water-impermeable cellulosic material on the other side, the high wet strength tissue paper used being formed by the inclusion of synthetic resin or resins in its basic composition. The absorbent layer comprises multiply cellulose wadding and is placed between outer layers 11, 13 of high wet strength tissue paper, the edges of the outer layers being joined by sticking with gum acacia, rubber latex, polyethoxyethyl methacrylate. nitrocellulose or pressure-sensitive adhesive, e.g. polythene, or by stitching or by crimping or embossing under pressure without the use of adhesive. One outer layer may comprise cellulose wadding coated on one side with polyethylene.</p> |
