A kinetic energy conversion, storage and recovery device is provided for a mobile vehicle or trailer. The device has a deformable spring 11 and fluid actuator 12 with energy input charge by spring loading through the actuator 12, and energy output recovery by spring unloading relaxation through the actuator 12 to create fluid pressure for driving. The spring 11 may be a leaf spring having opposed end linear actuator rams for spring end deflection and overall spring body deformation. A fluid pump 15 is typically provided which may be driven by a vehicle transmission, and is operable in reversible mode to serve as a drive motor upon spring recovery. Energising and deenergising is coordinated by a controller 14. A charged accumulator (23 see fig 3a) can serve as a fluid reservoir and for its use as a recoverable energy store may be provided with a fluid diversion line. In an integrated configuration, a fluid bag cell (41 see fig 7a) may be provided with spring mesh walls. |
