PURPOSE: A motion recognition method and a device thereof are provided to recognize motion rapidly by performing a motion recognition method depending on a control operation before terminating a control operation and sensing the control operation of a user with an acceleration sensor. CONSTITUTION: A candidate region sensing unit(10) senses an acceleration signal depending on the control operation of a user during a candidate region sensing period for sensing an acceleration signal. If the candidate region sensing period exceeds the maximum sensing period that senses the acceleration signal, a motion region extraction unit(30) extracts a segment signal for processing a signal from the acceleration signal within the maximum period. The motion region extraction unit includes a minimum period comparison unit, a maximum period comparison unit, and a segment extractor.
