PURPOSE: A magnesium oxide fine powder is provided to emit UV light having peak wavelength at 200-300nm and to industrially manufacture the magnesium oxide fine powder. CONSTITUTION: A method for manufacturing magnesium oxide fine powder containing halogen comprises a step of contacting magnesium vapor and oxide-containing gas under the presence of gas having 0.001-500 g of halogen based on 1kg of magnesium vapor. The halogen is at least a kind of halogen selected from the group of fluorine and chlorine. The fine powder is a hexahedron of primary particle. The fine powder is excited by electronic beam.
