PURPOSE: An apparatus for inspecting a liquid crystal display device and an inspecting method thereof are provided to check a defect of a liquid crystal panel using upper and lower polarizing plates which are different according to a mode. CONSTITUTION: A stage(110) is made in an air floating structure. A protective film surrounds a light source(125) to protect the light source. A lower polarizing plate(160) of a backlight unit(120) firstly polarizes light emitted from the light source in one axis direction. The polarizing plate secondly polarizes light emitted from the liquid crystal panel in one axis direction. A CCD camera(140) scans an image of a liquid crystal pane(100) using the light secondly polarized by the upper polarizing plate.
