Disclosed is an open faced merchandiser (10) for storing articles and for maintaining the articles at a specified temperature or within a specified temperature range. The merchandiser comprises of a controller, a plurality of temperature adjustable shelves (11), and at least one sensor. The plurality of shelves support and conduct heat or cold to the articles, and are electrically connected to the controller. The at least one sensor provides feedback to the controller.
