<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a driver recognize whether a wasteful baggage is loaded, and to enhance driver's knowledge and the consciousness of ecological traveling and economical traveling. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In an information providing apparatus and a method for providing information, gross vehicle weight is detected on the basis of an output value of a vehicle height sensor. A baggage weight indicating the gross weight of a baggage is calculated by subtracting the residual weight of fuel on board and the weight of the total number of occupants from the gross vehicle weight detected by a gross vehicle weight detecting means, and an upper limit value of an allowable baggage weight is determined. It is determined whether the baggage weight corresponds to that of the wasteful baggage by comparing the calculated baggage weight and the determined allowable weight.
