<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the visibility of a driver, and to reduce the glare imparted to a preceding vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: A headlight device for a vehicle includes a light source capable of forming a light distribution pattern PH for high beams including an area above a cut-off line of a light distribution pattern for low beams, and a headlight device control ECU system controlling the light source based on information obtained from a vehicle determination device detecting an object ahead of one's own vehicle and determining whether the object is a vehicle or not.
