<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save power of a repeater without affecting communication quality between networks. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The repeater 1 controls a link state and link speed of a WAN interface part 101 and a LAN interface part 102 corresponding to the difference of the link state and the link speed between the WAN interface part 101 and the LAN interface part 102. For instance, when a lower one of the link speed (WAN link speed) of the WAN interface part 101 and the link speed (LAN link speed) of the LAN interface part 102 is fixed, one of the WAN link speed and the LAN link speed is lowered so as to minimize the difference of both in the combination of the link speeds that the WAN interface part 101 and the LAN interface part 102 can take.
