PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly accurately and efficiently perform centering by high accurate centering in a short time without generating displacement or the like in fixing a workpiece. SOLUTION: After a lens 5 to be processed is temporarily fixed to a lens fixture 4 of a lens holding shaft 1 by vacuum suction, and centering for matching the axis center of the lens holding shaft 1 with the central axis of the lens 5 to be processed is performed by observing an outgoing light 18a and a reflected light 18b with respect to the lens 5 to be processed with an eccentricity detection device L1 mounted on a moving table 9, the lens 5 to be processed is held and rotated by holding between the lens holding shaft 1 and a lens fixing shaft 6, and centering is performed by pressing a grinding wheel 21 on an outer peripheral part of the lens 5 to be processed. Highly accurate centering can be performed by accurately fixing the lens 5 to be processed with respect to the lens holding shaft 1 in a coaxial state in a short time period without generating displacement compared to the case when the lens 5 to be processed is fixed to the lens fixture 4 by a tar as in the conventional way.
