<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a peak flow meter having a means to allow a user to easily recognize the exchange period of a component such as a rotor or a mouthpiece incorporating the rotor. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The sensor includes: a rotor having a shaft with a magnet and a blade extending from the shaft; and a coil for detecting a pulse signal to be generated in the coil when the shaft is rotated by the abutment of an air stream to the blade. In the sensor, an output signal is generated in the coil in response to the air stream of respiration, and the output signal provides information concerning the volume of air discharged by a patient and the discharging speed. The sensor includes: an energization control means for applying an AC voltage to the coil for a fixed time, rotating the magnet by giving a fixed rotary torque, and then, stopping energization; and a calculation means for measuring a time till the rotation stop of the rotor, based on the pulse signal to be generated in the coil after the stop of the energization.
