PURPOSE: A GPS(Global Positioning System) receiver and a position deciding method thereof are provided to decide the position of the GPS receiver by additionally selecting a substitute satellite in case there are fewer than 4 GPS satellites. CONSTITUTION: A GPS receiver(100) receives navigation data from one or more satellites. A decoder(110) extracts the time information and almanac information by decoding the navigation data. The database(150) stores the information on satellite arrangement. A satellite positioning unit(120) decides the position of a substitute satellite by using the almanac information. A navigation filter(130) decides the position of the GPS receiver by using the pseudo distances among the satellites.
