<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic key system which enhances convenience to a user by surely notifying him/her about an abnormal state of a vehicle without waste via an electronic key. <P>SOLUTION: A communication control portion 30 sets a first electric wave as an electric wave at an LF-band when the electronic key 2 is positioned in a first communication area A, while changing the first electric wave from the electric wave at the LF-band to an electric wave at a UHF-band and making the first electric wave include vehicle information on the abnormal state of the vehicle 3, when the electronic key 2 is positioned in a second communication area B.
