<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine appropriately suppressing a torque level difference by executing impulse charge when switching modes for operating a supercharger. <P>SOLUTION: The control device for the internal combustion engine is preferably applied to a system including a first supercharger, a second supercharger and an air intake control valve mounted on an air intake passage upstream of an air intake valve. A control means executes impulse charge by controlling the air intake control valve when switching from a mode for operating the first supercharger to a mode for operating the first supercharger and the second supercharger. Thus, volumetric efficiency is improved by executing impulse charge, so that an air flow can be maintained during the switching.
