<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a universal head monitoring camera that eliminates the troublesomeness of a user who have to record again the preset position while watching a monitor when the direction or position of the universal head camera is changed and the position the user desires to watch in the monitor is shifted. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the universal head monitoring camera that monitors with a monitoring camera connected to a universal head, information about the orientation and angle from the horizontal position of the monitoring camera is acquired, the acquired information about the orientation angle from the horizontal position of the monitoring camera is registered as information about a preset position, and when the orientation or position of the universal head camera is changed, the number of steps of a motor required to return the camera to the original state before the change is calculated from the registered information and acquired information about the current orientation and angle from the horizontal position of the camera and the motor is operated to change the orientation of the camera.
