<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten start-up time at system restart, to prevent memory fragmentation due to repetitive suspend/resume processing to enhance the stability of the system on a computer, and to perform user authentication simultaneously with the suspend/resume processing, thus improving the security of the system at restart. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A CPU 201 acquires a power source OFF key depression frequency and a specified soft reset frequency of a portable terminal 101, and executes soft reset if a numerical value of the former exceeds a numerical value of the latter.
