PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing barium titanate, in which the grain growth of a barium carbonate particle can be suppressed at a heating step when barium titanate is produced by a solid phase reaction of barium carbonate with titanium oxide, and by which barium titanate powder having a small particle size and uniform quality can be produced in excellent energy efficiency. SOLUTION: The method for producing barium titanate comprises the steps of: preparing a powdery mixture of barium carbonate powder and titanium oxide powder; and firing the powdery mixture. When the powdery mixture is heated to firing temperature, the powdery mixture is heated in the atmosphere at the heating rate of≥100°C/minute in a range of 400-700°C and the maximum firing temperature when the powdery mixture is fired in the atmosphere is set to be≥700°C.
