PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a noncontact ultrasonic inspection method capable of improving accuracy and capability in detecting a flaw so as to be equivalent or more in comparison with a contact type ultrasonic inspection method, and to provide a noncontact ultrasonic inspection apparatus. SOLUTION: A transmission side probe 3 and a reception side probe 5 are respectively disposed on both sides of an object to be inspected W at a prescribed distance, so as to sandwich the object to be inspected W, and an ultrasonic wave is transmitted from the transmission side probe 3 toward the object to be inspected W, and the ultrasonic wave passing through the object to be inspected W is received by the reception side probe 5, and a discrimination is made as to whether or not the flaw exists inside the object to be inspected W, based on an amplitude value of the passing ultrasonic wave. A space between the transmission side probe 3 and the object to be inspected W is covered by a pressure-proof wall 10, and a space between the reception side probe 5 and the object to be inspected W is covered by a pressure-proof wall 11. Air portions existing in the transmission side space and the reception side space covered by the pressure-proof walls 10, 11 are pressurized, thereby generating a high-density atmosphere condition, and the ultrasonic wave is transmitted from the transmission side probe 3 toward the object to be inspected W in above condition.
