<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a split-type mechanical seal capable of retaining sealing performance even at the time of disassembly. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A water-sealing part B is made up of a water-sealing ring 80 forming a casing C, and a sleeve 40 forming a mechanical seal A; the water-sealing ring 80 is attached to a cover 35, and has a disk-like protrusion 81 extending radially to the side of a rotating shaft J; in the protrusion 81, an annular groove 82 is formed upward. The sleeve 40 is extended downward along the rotating shaft J with its lower end 41 penetrating the annular groove 82. When the annular groove 82 is filled with liquid such as water, the lower end of the sleeve is intruded to sink into the liquid. A pouring hole 83 communicating with the annular groove 82 is made radially from the outside periphery of the water-sealing ring 80.
