<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a 4,4'-biphenyldiyl methylene-phenol resin, by which a 4,4'-biphenyldiyl methylene-phenol resin useful as a raw material for epoxidation of an epoxy resin or a curing agent for epoxy can be produced with a high polymerization rate and excellent productivity at a lower cost compared to the prior arts. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The production method comprises allowing 4,4'-bischloromethylbiphenyl to react with phenols in a saturated alicyclic hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of a paratoluene sulfonic acid catalyst.
