Class 20(2) A replacement rung for a ladder consists of a rod or tube 10 of a diameter such that it will just fit into the holes in the stiles of the ladder, a bearing plate 12 located axially on the rod 10 near one end 15, and a bearing plate 20 slidably axially on the rod near the other end 19. To fit the rung, the end 19, with the plate 20 thereon, is inserted into the rung hole on the inside of one of the stiles and is pushed into this hole a sufficient distance to permit the insertion of the end 15 into the rung hole in the opposite stile. The plates 12 and 20 are then screwed to the stiles to secure the rung. The plate 12 may be detachable and have a keyhole slot 13 of which the edges 17 at the narrow portion engage slots 16 in the rod 10 in order to axially secure the plate or the rod. Alternatively the plate may be located axially on the rod by welding it thereto.
