<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a business form processing apparatus capable of eliminating processing errors of a business form caused by ignorance of a role of a partial area of the business form without requiring human and temporal cost, and a method. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An image receiving part 100 receives image data of the business form, a detecting part 110 detects position information of a form on the business form, position information of dotted lines on the business form, and a character string on the business form and its position information from the image data, an acquiring part 120 obtains a label from a key representation storing part 42 for associating key representation to be a keyword in the character string with the label showing an attribute of the key representation to store them, a determining part 130 uses business form information obtained by associating the label with the position information of the key representation and with the position information of the form including the key representation to determine respective roles of partial areas of the business form partitioned by the dotted lines, and an outputting part 20 outputs a partial area of a prescribed role in an identifiable manner on the basis of a determination result of the determining part 130.
