<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively suppress overheat of purification catalyst depending on execution/non-execution of recirculation of exhaust gas to an intake system. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the internal combustion engine device, when a target ignition timing tf* of an engine is delayed than a predetermined timing tref (S330), a guard map value Tgmap is set, by use of maps set respectively according to whether EGR is performed or not, in such a manner that it is smaller as the target ignition timing tf* is delayed, and smaller as the rotating speed Ne of the engine is larger, and further, when EGR is performed, the guard map value is large, compared with the case without EGR (S350-S370). A throttle guard Tagard is set based on the set guard map value Tgmap, considering a throttle opening necessary for idling (S380-S410), and a target throttle opening Ta* is set by limiting a basic throttle opening Tbase by the throttle guard Tagard (S420).
