<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a runner vane operating device for a hydraulic machine capable of improving control accuracy of a runner vane by operating the runner vane without using oil. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A runner vane final stage operating output shaft 36 is connected to a generator shaft multi-stage planetary gear reduction gear 40 of a rotary main shaft to drive a runner vane 4 to be opened/closed. With this structure, an angle of the runner vane 14 fitted to a runner boss 38 is changed by relatively rotating the output shaft concentrically arranged with the rotary main shaft. An input shaft 42 arranged in the tip of a generator shaft 33 transmits and amplifies power from a generator 2 as a driving source through a reduction gear 43 and an actuating device 41. The multi-stage planetary gear reduction gear 41 is provided inside an intermediate shaft 39 between the generator shaft 33 of the rotary main shaft and a hydraulic turbine shaft 21 to decelerate the rotating speed of the input shaft 43.
