944,101. Ships' endless conveyers. J. COLLIS & SONS Ltd. Jan. 1, 1960 [Jan. 2, 1959], No. 239/59. Headings B8A and B8E. A conveyer unit for use in loading and unloading a ship on which it is installed comprises spaced reversible endless conveyers 4, 6, Fig. 3, pivotally connected to a central conveyer 5 so that their outer ends may be raised and lowered. The three conveyers are connected to an athwartships extending carriage including a gantry 7 carrying raising and lowering gear operating on ropes 8 attached to the conveyers 4, 6. The unit is movable athwartships from a central position to positions in which the outer end of conveyer 4 or 6 extends beyond the side of the ship's hull. The conveyer 5 is associated with a conveyer 10 extending to a lower deck and with a lift 11 extending to the upper decks. The conveyers 4, 6 may alternatively be raised and lowered by fluid pressure motors mounted on the carriage. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6, the central conveyer 5 is omitted and conveyers 13, 14 are connected to the carriage 15 by sliding pivots 16. The conveyer 10 is replaced by a pair of conveyers 12. |
