<p>The damper (1) has a piston rod (5) axially and movably guided in a cylinder (3) which is filled with an absorbing medium. A housing (19) is spatially implemented within the rod between a piston (6) and an end of the rod pointing in a direction outside the cylinder. A deflecting channel (40) provided within the rod connects a piston rod-lateral operating area (7) with an operating chamber (23) in the housing via a joining opening (36). The operating area has a connection opening (31) that is shifted in a direction of the piston at the channel with respect to the connection opening.</p>
