PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface mount type crystal oscillator in which a probe can be easily brought into contact with a crystal inspection terminal. SOLUTION: In a surface mount type crystal oscillator, a crystal piece 2 and an IC chip 3 are housed within a container body 1 having a bottom wall 1a and a frame wall 1b formed with laminated ceramics, and a communication terminal 13 is provided on an outer side surface of the container body 1. The communication terminal 13 is provided in a ridge line part from an outer side surface of the bottom wall 1a to an outer bottom surface of the bottom wall 1a. Not a distal end of the probe but a side surface can be abutted. Furthermore, the crystal piece 2 and the IC chip 3 are arranged in parallel on an inner bottom surface within the container body 1. Thus, a height dimension of the surface mount oscillator is reduced and a function as a communication terminal can then be sufficiently presented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
