Disclosed is a fuel cell separator material which is capable of firmly and uniformly forming an Au layer or an Au-containing layer on the surface of a titanium base, while securing the conductivity, corrosion resistance and durability required for a fuel cell separator. Specifically disclosed is a fuel cell separator material wherein an alloy layer (6) of Au and a first component, which is composed of one or more metals selected from a group consisting of Al, Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Mo, Sn and Bi, or an Au alone layer (8) is formed on the surface of a stainless steel base (2), while having an intermediate layer (2a), which contains 20% by mass or more of the first component and 20% by mass or more but less than 50% by mass of O, between the stainless steel base and the alloy layer or the Au alone layer. The alloy layer or the Au alone layer has a region having a thickness of 1 nm or more from the outermost surface toward the bottom and containing 40% by mass or more of Au, or a region having a thickness of 3 nm or more from the outermost surface toward the bottom and containing 10% by mass or more but less than 40% by mass of Au. Alternatively, the Au alone layer has a thickness of 1 nm or more.
|
