<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safe and effective method of treating disorders of muscles and/or bones. <P>SOLUTION: There are provided a method and a composition for inhibiting growth and differentiation factor (GDF-8) activity in vitro and in vivo. A method of treating myodegeneration disorders and osteodegeneration disorders is also provided. The method is effective for increasing a bone quantity and bone density in healthy animals. There is also provided a method of inhibiting the GDF-8 activity that negatively controls the quantity of skeletal muscles and bone density.
