PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power generation element which is suitable as a power source for a portable type electronic equipment, can be further made small and lightweight, has high safety, and can be used even in a portion requiring flexibility. SOLUTION: The power generation element holds a sheet-like elastomer 1 containing a specific imidazolium-based ionic liquid by a pair of sheet-like electrodes 10, and as one example of the ionic liquid, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium is employed as a cation and (NC)<SB>2</SB>N<SP>-</SP>or (CF<SB>3</SB>SO<SB>2</SB>)<SB>2</SB>N<SP>-</SP>is employed as an anion.
