PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of cleaning a membrane module, for increasing cleaning efficiency by chemical solution cleaning when performing chemical solution cleaning of the membrane module for membrane-filtering treatment of raw water, reducing the amount of the use of chemical solution, efficiently rinsing the membranes and pipes after chemical solution cleaning, and enabling quick restart of membrane-filtering. SOLUTION: The method of cleaning the membrane module used for membrane-filtering includes: (a) a process of permeating a chemical solution from the membrane raw water side to the membrane filtrate side by releasing the membrane filtrate side to the atmosphere; and (b) a process of pushing out the chemical solution from the membrane filtrate side to the raw water side by introducing compressed air to the membrane filtrate side, the processes (a) and (b) being repeated several times, when feeding the chemical solution to the raw water side and dipping the membrane in the chemical solution.
