<p>PURPOSE: An air conditioner and a control method thereof are provided to protect a compressor by stopping the operation of the compressor if the leakage of refrigerant. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner comprises: an indoor unit; an outdoor unit which is connected to the indoor unit through a refrigerant pipe; an indoor temperature sensor(110) which measures the indoor temperature while the indoor unit is operating; a pipe temperature sensor(120) which measures the temperature of the refrigerant pipe while being installed in a refrigerant suction part of an evaporator which is arranged in the inside of the indoor unit; and a controller(100) which control the driving of the compressor according to a comparison result which is compares a temperature difference between the pipe temperature and the indoor temperature which are measured for a designated time after the compressor which is included in the outdoor unit is continuously operated for a set up time. If the temperature difference is smaller than the set value in the comparison result, the controller stops the operation of the compressor.</p> |
