<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more easily specify a device being present in front of a user than the prior arts even when a communication means of a low communication velocity or a communication means limited in the number of transmittable bits is used, in a control device and a device to be controlled that are communicable with each other over a network, a device specification system and a device specification method capable of specifying an opposite-side device between the devices. <P>SOLUTION: There are provided: a control device 110 for transmitting, to a device to be controlled 120 communicable using a wireless communication system limited in at least either directivity or a transmittable distance, a device specifying signal specifying the device; and the device to be controlled 120 for transmitting a response to the device specifying signal toward a network 101 through multicasting or broadcasting when the device specifying signal is received from the control device 110.
