PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching regulator type power supply apparatus which eliminates power consumption in the standby state, and can make the switching frequency variable, and further, operates stably even in a high switching frequency. SOLUTION: A regulator IC 10 of the power supply apparatus is constituted of seven connection terminals for outside connection, a P-channel type MOS transistor 26, an inside controlling circuit 15 for controlling the MOS 26, and a switch circuit 14 for giving an operating power supply to the inside controlling circuit 15. The inside controlling circuit 15 includes a soft-start circuit 16, a reference voltage source 17, an error amplifier 18, a PWM comparator 19, an oscillation circuit 20, a latch circuit 21, a driver 22, a TSD circuit 23 (overheat protection circuit), an overcurrent protecting circuit 24, a constant voltage source 25, and a reset signal generating circuit 28.
