<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine an abnormal amplitude of a water tub 3 from vibration components in three directions at the front of the water tub 3 and to respond to abnormal vibrations due to imbalance which may occur in various positions. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The drum-type washing machine is provided with a vibration detecting means 40 which detects vibration components in three-dimensional direction in the anterior part of the top of the water tub 3. It determines whether there are abnormalities in the amplitude or not at the front and at the back of a water tub unit 7 from correlation between vibration components in several directions of three directions at the front of the water tub 3 which are output from the vibration detecting means 40 and vibration components in at least one of two directions: horizontal and vertical directions at the back of the water tub 3 which are estimated from signals output by the vibration detecting means 3 at the time of a predetermined number of revolutions or within a range of predetermined numbers of revolutions during dewatering operations after washing and rinsing processes and responds to abnormal vibrations due to imbalance which may occur in various positions.
