摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a birefringence measurement apparatus for accurately calculating the birefringence quantity and a birefringence axial angle in a single measurement. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The birefringence measurement apparatus for measuring the birefringence quantity and the birefringence axial angle of a to-be-measured object includes: a light source section 10; a dividing section 20; a polarization section 30; light receiving sections 40, 41; and a calculation section 50. The light source section 10 irradiates the to-be-measured object 1 with one of a linear polarization, a circular polarization and an elliptic polarization. The dividing section 20 divides a light transmitted through the to-be-measured object into two lights. The polarization section 30 has two polarizer 31, 32 having different angles to a polarization plane and an angle difference other than a multiple of 90°, and polarizes two lights divided by the dividing section 20. The light receiving sections 40, 41 receive two light polarized by the polarization section 30. The calculation section 50 calculates the birefringence quantity and the birefringence axial angle of the to-be-measured object by using two quantities of the lights received by the light receiving sections 40, 41.
