<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lash adjuster ensuring abrasion resistance of a male thread even if an adjust screw is normally carburized. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This lash adjuster 1 includes: a nut member 14 having a female thread 15 formed around its inner periphery; the adjust screw 17 having the male thread 16 formed around its outer periphery and engaged with the female thread 15; and a return spring 19 pressing the adjust screw 17. The male thread 16 and female thread 15 are formed into such a saw-toothed shape that flank angles of pressure-side flanks 23, 25 receiving pressure when applied with a load in a direction pressing the adjust screw 17 into the nut member 14 are larger than flank angles of play-side flanks 24, 26, and the adjust screw 17 is carburized and quenched. Shot blast is applied to the pressure-side flank 23 of the male thread 16, and the flank angle α of the pressure-side flank 23 of the male thread 16 is set smaller than the flank angle β of the pressure-side flank 25 of the female thread 15.
