<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stator coil of an axial gap rotary electric machine which can achieve a high conductor occupation factor, is improved in manufacturing performance, and high in insulation reliability. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The stator coil 1 of the axial gap rotary electric machine includes a plurality of first coil pieces 3 composed of conductors and a plurality of second coil pieces 4 composed of conductors, and a base member 2 formed with recesses 7, 7a, 8, 8a at both sides for locking the first coil pieces and the second coil pieces by aligning them in the circumferential direction. The first coil pieces and the second coil pieces are arranged in the recesses formed at both sides of the base member, and first connections and second connections of the first coil pieces and connections of the first coil pieces are connected to those which oppose each other at both sides, respectively, whereby a prescribed coil loop is formed.
