The housing has guides (60) for allowing the interchangeable tools to be inserted into a free space of the housing between the guides along a direction. The housing has retaining surfaces for limiting the movements of the tools in another direction. A tooth (100) is provided between the guides for limiting the movements of the tools in the latter direction in a plane other than that of the retaining surfaces and the guides, to tilt the tools when a force is applied to the tools along the latter direction. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is also included for a method for actuating a coordinate measuring machine. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Rack for storing an interchangeable tool e.g. touch probe, video camera or mechanical or optical measuring tool, of a coordinate measuring machine, and for allowing the tool to be automatically exchanged during a measuring operation, where the tool is connectable in removable manner, to a mobile arm of the machine in the field of metrology and dimension measurement. Can also be used for storing an automatic machine-tool, an industrial robot or a machine or a system with automatically interchangeable tools. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The tooth is provided between the guides for limiting the movements of the tools in the direction in the plane than that of the retaining surfaces and the guides, to tilt the tools when the force is applied to the tools along the direction, thus reducing the mechanical efforts exerted on the guides during uncoupling, and hence preventing the loss of adjustment and inaccurate measurement. The rack allows the disconnection and the connection of the tools to be performed only by passive elements and allows the movements of the machine without having to use additional actuators to lock or unlock the tools.
