An in-flight entertainment system includes a plurality of media players that are distributed at locations within an aircraft cabin. Individual media players are provided with a dedicated media data storage device 915 having a library of media content files. The media players are responsive to a signal sent to the media players from a central location or server 910 within the aircraft to effect retrieval and display of specific content items at that media player from the library of content. The content may include safety notices and the players may be synchronised. The data storage unit may be a removable hard disc drive that has an electric lock or requires a tool to effect removal. Communication with the media players may be wireless. The media player may also have a power outlet (260) for passenger electronic devices that is activated through user interaction with the media player. The media player may also display a map of real-time geographic data for the position of the aircraft. |
