Disclosed is a method for authenticated voice or video call between a first and second user. The method starts with a server receiving an instruction to initiate an authenticated call, the server transmits an identifier to a first device, associated with the first user, the identifier being uniquely associated with the first user. The server can then be authenticated by the device or by the first user. The server then receives user-generated information from the first device, which is used to authenticate the first user, and initiate the authenticated call between a second device associated with the second user and the first device. The device and the server may communicate over a different data channel to the voice channel or they may use the voice channel.
