<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illuminator by which illuminating light of sufficiently fine color balance is obtained and lowering of optical use efficiency of a light source is prevented by sufficiently enhancing intensity of light running short. <P>SOLUTION: The illuminator is provided with a main light source 5 which emits light of a plurality of wavelength areas and an integrator optical system 6 which converts the light incident from the main light source 5 and having nonuniform intensity distribution into light having approximately uniform intensity distribution and an auxiliary light source 7 which emits light with a specific wavelength range is arranged in the vicinity of a location where a plurality of condensing images (light source images) A are discretely formed by the integrator optical system 6. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
