Stringer material for the production of sliding clasp fasteners, comprises a pair of stringers, each including a tape 3 or 4 on which is secured a respective series of fastener elements 1 or 2, and two or more sliding clasps 5, 5a, 5b. Orientated in the same direction and engaged with the stringers, those fastener elements which are disposed at any one time between any two adjacent clasps being either all interconnected except for a number of elements located in close proximity to the wide end of one of the sliding clasps, Fig. 1, or all separated from each other except for a number of elements located in close proximity to the narrow end of one of the sliding clasps, Fig. 2. As shown, in which the fastener elements may be constituted by a continuous wire or strip, the sliding clasps are applied at one end of a pair of stringers and are then disposed at regularly or irregularly spaced positions along the stringers, which are then wound on to a spool, from which selected lengths of stringer material may be cut and provided with end stops. In another arrangement, Figs. 6 and 7, the sliding clasp 16 consists of front and rear portions 16a, 16b which are pressed together in any suitable manner on opposite sides respectively of openings 15 formed along interconnected fastener elements. The openings are formed by folding the interconnected stringers back on themselves into a tight bend and then applying a sideways pull, at the bend, to the stringer tapes whereby to separate the elements sufficiently to permit application of the clasp 16. |
