PURPOSE: A convertible cup tappet is provided to have an outer body in which an opening in a protrusion can be simply formed by punching or boring through another opening in a skirt. CONSTITUTION: A convertible cup tappet(1) comprises an outer body including an annular base(3). A cylindrical protrusion is projected from the inner perimeter of the base. An inner body capable of moving in the axial direction of the outer body is guided in a bore of the protrusion. A coupling unit is extended from a receiving part of one of cup tappet parts and interlocks with a driven surface of different parts according to section. An anti-rotation member(20) installed between the parts is placed in a window-type opening(21) of the protrusion so that an inner surface(23) contacts a complementary vertical groove(24) of an outer jacket in the inner body. The opening of the protrusion is formed by approaching of a tool through an opening(22) of a skirt located radially opposite to the anti-rotation member.
