<p>A lap joint for forming a water-tight joint between first and second sheets of material 10, 20 comprises a sealant strip, which has a width up to the width of overlap of the first and second sheets. The joint is held together by a plurality of fasteners, which compress the first and second sheets of material about the sealant strip. The sealant strip comprises one or more elastomeric cords 52 embedded in a sealant composition. When a single cord is present, fasteners are placed through the sealant strip on either side of the cord (fig 4), and when a plurality of cords are present, the fasteners are placed between the cords, and there are preferably an even number of cords (fig 5). Preferably, the sealant strip comprises a non-setting composition capable of adhering to the first and second sheets of material and has one or more elastomeric cords embedded in it.</p> |
